Okay y’all, confession. I JUDGE BOOKS BASED ON THEIR COVERS. I love pretty, colorful books. I love holding them and looking at them and putting them on my bookshelf. I pride myself on having books that people always tell me are “so pretty”. So how do I pick them?
Honestly, I just love colorful books! Unless I already know what the book is about (thanks Booktok), I look at the cover first. If it has a real person on the front (not a drawn or cartoon person), it goes back on the shelf. I’m not sure why that turns me off so much, but it does. I don’t think I’ve read a book with a picture of a person on the front since I was in high school.
If the cover is appealing enough, I’ll read the book jacket or the back cover. And if it’s interesting, I’ll grab it! I know some people read the first or last pages of the book, or sit down and read a chapter, but I hardly ever do that. Unless I have time to kill and I’m at the library maybe!
Here are some of my FAVORITE book covers. What are yours?
