Title: One of Us is Dead
Author: Jeneva Rose
Genre: Contemporary, Mystery
Keywords: Elite society, back-stabbing, secrets
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Buckhead is stereotypical high society- a clique of rich women, their politician and businessman husbands, and all the drama that conspires between them. Jenny has made a place for herself here without getting too involved- she owns the classy, ritzy salon that anybody who is anybody goes to. She has a front row seat to all the gossip and drama the town has to offer. But as Buckhead society starts taking over the salon, irreparable damage will be done to her life. This story follows Jenny and the women of Buckhead through the turmoil of infidelity, divorce, backstabbing, and…murder?!
***spoiler alert past this point***
The thing that kept this book from getting 5 stars was the actual “crime” and how it was committed. In my opinion, it is a huge leap for Jenny and the rest of the crew to jump to murder when they find out who is responsible for the break in, the human trafficking, etc. If they had all been discussing who was behind the break in, plotting revenge, or something like that for a while leading up to the end then maybe I could see it, but it just doesn’t make sense to me to go from being a victim to organizing a group crime resulting in multiple deaths.
Other than that, this book was really enjoyable and has a crazy cast of characters that I enjoyed getting to know! The narration for the audiobook was also pretty spot on. I think this book would be great for a buddy read or book club discussion!
